Has it Really Been a Month? Really, a month? Well, almost. I haven’t posted an entry on here since March 2nd. That entry was an odd one of sorts as well. I sold that deck. Then, I needed a break. It happens.

Over the course of the past few months, I have been building my Tarot collection, finding myself in readings, and new and interesting ways to incorporate Tarot into my life. However, none of the learning and discovery has been mentioned here as  of late. I’ve struggled with the voice of this blog. Do I want it it to be a depository for daily readings and reflections? Or, do I want to use a private print journal? Do I want to post the newest decks I have discovered or my latest finds and purchases, even if they aren’t new, mass market or well known? Deck: Victorian Regina Tarot

This has been the week of trying new daily spreads! I do my readings at night, right before bedtime. My original intent was to use a 3 card spread I discovered on Aeclectic, but when I looked it up this morning, it appears that I made up my own spread last night. That’s the beauty of Tarot; you can use what works best for you. This is what I came up with:

Reflections Spread

(Left) What can I take from the day?
(Center) What can I take into tomorrow?
(Right) What can I take from today into tomorrow?

The last card helps clarify how you can take the experience from the day into tomorrow. It’s a summary card in many ways, but also takes into account what the focus was for today (position 1) and the focus for the tomorrow (position 2).  more...

Has it really been three weeks since my last post? So far, this year has been off to a busy start. After a busy work week and preparing to go away, going away and then coming back and getting things back up to speed, I feel like I lost track of time! Needless to stay, I am ready to get things back on track with this blog. Posting three times a week (under normal conditions!) isn’t too much to ask of myself.

Whilst I have not been blogging, I have still been doing daily draws. Single card draws for reflections work well, and I like the simplicity of three card spreads (past – present – future or the like). However, I have become quite fond of two card spreads as well. Clear and to the point, they offer a concise way to do a assist in clarifying the issue depicted in the first card drawn. Sometimes, less is better!  more...

I read a post on Tarot Dame’s Blog featuring a New Year Spread last week. I was planning doing a 3 card reading using the past, present and future positions, and this spread is a fun take on it:

New Year Spread

(Left)What I should leave behind me when the new year arrives?
(Center)What I should take with me in the new year?
(Right)What I have to look forward to in the coming year?

My first observation was that I drew three Major Arcana cards. This implies that each of the answers involves a significant event or stage. Valuable and possibly life-changing events are in the works for 2010. Most of us feel this way when we start the year and we tend to focus on the immediate. I am flattered and quite humbled to be honored by the prestigious The Tarot School. This blog was created as an outlet for me to write about my experiences with Tarot and to harness my web design skills (which I currently use at my day job). It’s been a hobby of sorts in so many ways.

Cat ‘N Owl has an interesting writing prompt “Picking your tarot card focus for 2010” that can kick start the new year and help you focus one Tarot card for the entire year. Aside from journaling and generally reflecting on it, you can take it one step further by meditating with it. If you let your imagination roam free and lose yourself in the imagery, you will learn something new.

Grab a deck and remove all of the Major cards from it. Shuffle the Majors only and focus on the question: What do I need to be focusing on this year?

I drew The Hierophant from The Victorian Romantic Tarot. Since I am also using The Bohemian Gothic Tarot to offer a shadow interpretation, I pulled the Hierophant from that deck so that I could view them together.  more...

Tarot Card of the Day – December 31, 2009

Deck: Morgan-Greer Tarot

For my daily draw today, I pulled the 5 of Cups. When I view this card, there are many emotive qualities that lean towards the negative aspects of the scene depicted including the three cups that have been spilled over. But, I see the positive: the two cups that are still standing and are full.

The three spilled cups have wine or blood; blood is often used as a metaphor for the flesh in religions like Christianity. In numerology, 3 represents things coming together. In this instance, what has come together has been separated, emptied and is flowing until it disappears into the dry earth. However, right behind the figure in the card are two cups that stand upright and full. in numerlogy, 2 represents new beginnings; there is still hope and we can start again. In the distance of the barren landscape of the present, is a castle on top of a fertile cliff. Birds–perhaps sea gulls–fly over the sea and above the castle and symbolize movement. The waters are calm, not stormy. Perhaps the feelings of despair and gloom were just an illusion.  more...

The Moon is a card that seems to cause confusion at times due to the mysterious scene being depicted in most Tarot decks. Many, including the Morgan Greer, show no humans in the card at all. The Moon card calls out for us to to get in touch with our animal instincts, the ones that may be more primal and less restrained. It conveys a message of mystery, illusion as opposed to reality.  more...
