Tarot News: Baba-Studio to Release The Alice Tarot in 2010

I love all things Baba-Studio. From their decks, to their Tarot bags and other accessories, they have found a unique way to capture an audience and market their self-published creations. The Victorian Romantic Tarot is one of my favorite decks and one that I simply love reading with. And, The Bohemian Gothic Tarot, Baroque Bohemian Cats’ Tarot and The Fantastic Menagerie Tarot? I have those tucked away along with the books on each deck, so that I can focus on them at a later date. But, that Bohemian Gothic deck, it does call out to be read sooner than later!

Alice and Wonderland will get the full dark treatment next year. Aside from the release of Tim Burton’s Alice and Wonderland movie, if you love Tarot, here’s another way to fall down the rabbit hole…

Neil Gaiman's "15 Painted Cards from a Vampire Tarot"Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab is proud to present a 15-month scent and art series based on Neil Gaiman’s short story, “15 Painted Cards from a Vampire Tarot.”

Each package comes with a 5ml bottle of perfume inspired by the tale and a corresponding tarot card, created by Madame Talbot.

The Fool premiered at San Diego Comic Con 2009 through the CBLDF, along with a Limited Edition variant of the Fool, created by Alicia Dabney.

The Fool went live online with Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab’s September 2009 Lunacy update. A new set will be added to the collection each month, spanning 15 months. T-shirts featuring Madame Talbot’s artwork for the series will also be available through Black Phoenix Trading Post.

This is a charitable, not-for-profit venture: proceeds from every single set and tee go to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, which works to preserve the First Amendment rights of the comic community.

Music & Tarot: Smashing Pumpkins next album ‘Teargarden by Kaleidyscope’ is based on the ‘The Fool’s Journey’

According to an official announcement on the Smashing Pumpkins web site, “The story of the album ['Teargarden by Kaleidyscope'] is based on ‘The Fool’s Journey’, as signified in the progress of the Tarot. It is my intention to approach this by breaking down the journey of our life here into four phases as made by these different characters; the Child, the Fool, the Skeptic, and the Mystic.”

I have always been an avid Smashing Pumpkins fan. They take me back to the late ’80s and ’90s; Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness are still two of my favorite albums from them. This is great news and I can’t wait to hear the tracks, see the name of the songs and hear the transitions. And, I am sure the actual tangible album design–when compared to the digital version–will be spectacular.

Tarot News: The Goddess Tarot iPhone app. Submitted to Apple

According to Kris Waldherr, designer of the beautiful and empowering The Goddess Tarot deck, The Goddess Tarot iPhone app has been submmitted to Apple. If it is approved, it will launch in the Apple app store on August 1, 2009. She posted a trailer about the app on her blog.

According to the video, once a user opens the app, they can choose from four Tarot spreads:

  • The One Card Oracle Reading
  • Past – Present – Future
  • The Celtic Cross
  • The Goddess Circle

The spread selected is laid out and users tap the card to read the meanings of the reading. And, if users just want to read about the individual cards, they can do so as well. There is also a handy section entitled the “The Goddess Tarot Reference Center” where users can learn more about the Goddesses depicted in each card. The interface looks intuitive and simple to use.
