Shuffling the Deck of Life: Goals, Seeking to Retreat, and The Reward

Three Card Spread – November 23, 2009:

Deck: Morgan-Greer Tarot

Cards: 9 of Pentacles; 4 of Swords; 2 of Rods (Wands)

11-23-09-morgan-greer-tarot

I drew the 9 of Pentacles last Monday. However this week, shows that the card needed further clarification or is calling out to be noticed. In this three card spread, the path to enjoy the fruits of labor, is laid out quite clearly.

Pentacles is indeed the focus and the outcome of this spread when I view all of the cards together. The 2 of Rods (Wands) shows the desire to seek for more. The man holds his wand in his left hand, denoting action, and an orb in his right hand, symbolic of his unconscious desires. His shield is decorated ornately with red roses and lilies, symbolic of his passion and will to grow. A comrade holds the other wand.

Shuffling the Deck of Life: Three Card Spread – The Battle Within

101309-3-card-spread

Three Card Spread – October 13, 2009
7 of Wands; Knight of Swords – Reversed; The Hermit – Reversed

I drew this three card spread last night and it shed light on the current state of affairs regarding a situation in my life right now. As soon as I drew the cards, I quickly jotted down my interpretations in my journal.

My first observation was the flow of cards from left to right, which seemed like the obvious way for me to read them, as opposed to the center card being the focal point. However, I see the Knight of Swords reversed as the focus card and the 7/Wands and the Hermit Reversed as responses to it.

Shuffling the Deck of Life: Focus Tarot Card of the Week – 7 of Wands (Reversed) (Sep. 14 – 20)

Tarot Card of the Week – September 14-20, 2009: 7 of Wands (Reversed)

Deck: The Rider Tarot

7-wands-reversed-rider-waite

Element: Fire
Associations:
Passions; urge; creativity; growth

I drew the 7 of Wands earlier this month and pulled the card in its reversed position today as the daily focus card of the week. I also pulled another card in the suit of Wands today–the 6 of Wands–as my daily Tarot card of the day. As each of the cards work with our intuitive process, I’ll pay attention to activities and events that are ongoing or arise this week.

In its upright position, the 7 of Wands represents holding your ground, but being on the lookout at the same time; things are under control right now, but if you don’t pay attention, that may change.

Shuffling the Deck of Life: Tarot Card of the Day – 6 of Wands

Tarot Card of the Day – September 14,  2009: 6 of Wands

Deck: The Rider Tarot

Element: Fire
Associations:
Passions; urge; creativity; growth

The imagery in this card shows a person gallantly reaping in the rewards for a battle that has just been won. Since this is the suite of Wands, representative of fire, this achievement was an actual event in life. The goal has been achieved and the celebration has begun. The victor, who is riding on a horse coming from the left side, symbolic of consciousness has done something for the greater good and the people who surround him are saluting his efforts.

This card displays the joy of winning, achievement and the completion of a project or goal as well as the praise that follows. Enjoy! I did–on my day home from work.

Shuffling the Deck of Life: Tarot Card of the Day – 7 of Wands

Tarot Card of the Day – September 2, 2009: 7 of Wands

Deck: The Rider Tarot

Element: Fire
Associations: Passions; urge; creativity; growth

So far this week, I have had a steady stream of string cards for my daily draw. This is the first one this far that causes me to be attentive to a current situation that I may be spearheading and currently still have the stronghold on.

The figure in this card clearly looks distressed and appears to have his wand in a guard like position against the other wands which appear below the cliff. However, not a cloud drifts in the sky; it is completely clear and free of any natural disturbances. The grass covered cliff is the highest point in the card and the figure is on the edge of the cliff. Everything is under control now, and perhaps there really shouldn’t be an alarm sounded here as a call for concern, but the card seems to say that I am on the edge of a minor disturbance. The outcome is completely dependent on how I handle the current situation.

Shuffling the Deck of Life: Tarot Card of the Day – 6 of Wands

Tarot Card of the Day – July 29, 2009: 6 of Wands

Deck: Universal Waite Tarot

6-wands-universal-waite

Element: Fire
Associations: Passions; urge; creativity; growth

The 6 of Wands depicts a scene of victory. From the laurel wreath on the man’s head–to the other laurel leaf that hangs across the wand he carries–and lastly the budding laurel that appears on all of the wands. Laurel also appears on the other wands cards as well, although this is the first time I associated it with symbolism. The red ribbon on the wreath around the wand seems is blowing in the wind, symbolizing flowing passion or action. Sitting gallantly on top of his white horse who is draped in a green cape. The green in this card makes me think of nature and growth. This success is newfound and the celebration has just begun. People are displaying support of this win and they are holding their wands are straight up in the air.

Free Association: Tarot Card of the Day – 7 of Wands

Tarot Card of the Day – July 20, 2009: 7 of Wands

Deck: Universal Waite Tarot

Element: Fire
Associations: Passions; urge; creativity; growth

For today’s Tarot Card of the Day, I am using am using free association as my method for reading this card. A great introduction to free association and Tarot available on Douglas Gibb’s Tarot Eon blog.

Here is a list of thoughts and sensory experiences that came to mind using free association:

  • Wary; battle; fear; insecure; unbalanced; weakened; surprised; defense; pride; unsure; holding his ground; on top of the world (the grass and water stream are reminiscent of the top of a globe); playing the field; on guard; little protection; battling without armor; battling the army (physical or emotional); earthy smells; fast breathing; sweating; muscles are flexing; heart is racing

Shuffling the Deck of Life: Tarot Card of the Day – 7 of Wands

I did not do the free association exercise last night. I got home at 8 p.m.; I normally get home at 7 p.m., but had a staff meeting at work. Dinner followed and I tackled a freelancing project. By the time I made it to my bedroom post shower, it was nearly 10:30 p.m.

I propped myself up in bed with two pillows, grabbed my Universal Waite Tarot deck, which is wrapped up in a scarf, and took it out. I had previously been looking at the cards in order. It seemed to be a logical progression at the time, and I will still follow the order to see how it develops. The story as told through the cards is an essential one and should not be overlooked. However, Tarot readings do not occur in an orderly fashion. Life too, occurs in steps, and has its ups and downs. We shuffle the deck called life everyday.
