A New 3 Card Daily Spread: Reflections Spread

Deck: Victorian Regina Tarot

This has been the week of trying new daily spreads! I do my readings at night, right before bedtime. My original intent was to use a 3 card spread I discovered on Aeclectic, but when I looked it up this morning, it appears that I made up my own spread last night. That’s the beauty of Tarot; you can use what works best for you. This is what I came up with:

Reflections Spread

(Left) What can I take from the day?
(Center) What can I take into tomorrow?
(Right) What can I take from today into tomorrow?

The last card helps clarify how you can take the experience from the day into tomorrow. It’s a summary card in many ways, but also takes into account what the focus was for today (position 1) and the focus for the tomorrow (position 2).

My 2 Card Spread (Focus; Solution): On Guard and Seeking to Enjoy the Rewards of Life

Deck: (Top) The Victorian Romantic Tarot; (Bottom) The Bohemian Gothic Tarot

Has it really been three weeks since my last post? So far, this year has been off to a busy start. After a busy work week and preparing to go away, going away and then coming back and getting things back up to speed, I feel like I lost track of time! Needless to stay, I am ready to get things back on track with this blog. Posting three times a week (under normal conditions!) isn’t too much to ask of myself.

Whilst I have not been blogging, I have still been doing daily draws. Single card draws for reflections work well, and I like the simplicity of three card spreads (past – present – future or the like). However, I have become quite fond of two card spreads as well. Clear and to the point, they offer a concise way to do a assist in clarifying the issue depicted in the first card drawn. Sometimes, less is better!

Shuffling the Deck of Life: Goals, Seeking to Retreat, and The Reward

Three Card Spread – November 23, 2009:

Deck: Morgan-Greer Tarot

Cards: 9 of Pentacles; 4 of Swords; 2 of Rods (Wands)

11-23-09-morgan-greer-tarot

I drew the 9 of Pentacles last Monday. However this week, shows that the card needed further clarification or is calling out to be noticed. In this three card spread, the path to enjoy the fruits of labor, is laid out quite clearly.

Pentacles is indeed the focus and the outcome of this spread when I view all of the cards together. The 2 of Rods (Wands) shows the desire to seek for more. The man holds his wand in his left hand, denoting action, and an orb in his right hand, symbolic of his unconscious desires. His shield is decorated ornately with red roses and lilies, symbolic of his passion and will to grow. A comrade holds the other wand.

Shuffling the Deck of Life: The Princess of Swords

Tarot Card of the Day – November 3, 2009: Princess of Swords

Deck: The Fairy Tale Tarot

pincess-swords-the-fairy-tale-tarot

Element: Air
Associations: Thought processes; conflict

The Princess of Swords in the Fairy Tale Tarot is based on the story, “Thumbelina“. Based on the typical Rider-Waite-Smith meanings (RWS), the Princess of Swords is equivalent to the Page of Swords.

The princess–or in this case Thumbelina–is riding a bird through the air. The bird carries her above a large stream of water, gliding through the mist. To her right are ice-capped mountains and to her left is a meadow. The ice-capped mountains symbolize goals and aspirations that need to be achieved by understanding unconscious. The meadow denotes fruition. The stream in between represents mystery, the flow of thoughts and the possibility of discovery and inner strength that is possible in the suit of Swords.

Shuffling the Deck of Life: The Queen of Swords Makes Her Presence Known

Tarot Card of the Day – October 28, 2009: Queen of Swords

Deck: The Victorian Romantic Tarot

Element: Air
Associations: Thought processes; conflict

The swords have been my suit selection this week; I have drawn the Queen of Swords from two different decks in two consecutive days, technically one day apart since I didn’t do a draw yesterday. I received my The Victorian Romantic Tarot on Monday night and wanted to spend time observing and connecting with it, so I wanted to hold off a day. It turns out that the Queen of Swords wanted to make her presence known in this deck as well. When Tarot repeats itself, it’s a signal to pay attention to, especially if it involves the same card.

Shuffling the Deck of Life: Ace of Swords (Reversed) – The Fairy Tale Tarot

Tarot Card of the Day – October 19, 2009: Ace of Swords (Reversed)

Deck: The Fairy Tale Tarot

the-fairy-tale-tarot-ace-swords-reversed

It’s time for a lunchtime blog post. I have pulled quite a few reversed cards lately, indicating blockage or a weakened state of affairs. The Ace of Swords in the Fairy Tale Tarot is based on the story, “Cap o’ Rushes“.

A woman stands and is surrounded by nature’s elements including wheat and trees, denoting bounty. She stands in front of a stone path which is indicative of the new beginnings that all Ace cards bring. To her right, we see a large tree trunk and many curvy branches. The trunk can symbolize stability and the branches can symbolize growth. The sword is driven into the ground like a stake, showing precision. Her hair flows in the wind and white bird flies above her, representing movement and freedom.  She also holds feathers in her hands and wears a feather belt, perhaps a metaphor for the thoughts racing within her mind. A large body of water, symbolic of unconsciousness, emotions and mystery separates her from a large castle, her home. The sky is cloudy indicates that there is an unknown factor at the moment.

Shuffling the Deck of Life: Three Card Spread – The Battle Within

101309-3-card-spread

Three Card Spread – October 13, 2009
7 of Wands; Knight of Swords – Reversed; The Hermit – Reversed

I drew this three card spread last night and it shed light on the current state of affairs regarding a situation in my life right now. As soon as I drew the cards, I quickly jotted down my interpretations in my journal.

My first observation was the flow of cards from left to right, which seemed like the obvious way for me to read them, as opposed to the center card being the focal point. However, I see the Knight of Swords reversed as the focus card and the 7/Wands and the Hermit Reversed as responses to it.

Shuffling the Deck of Life: Tarot Card of the Day – 3 of Swords

Tarot Card of the Day – September 16, 2009: 3 of Swords

Deck: The Rider Tarot

3-swords-rider-waite

Element: Air
Associations:
Thought processes; conflict

When I see the 3 of Swords, it causes me to reflect on any emotions and situations that may be causing me pain and heartache. And, more specifically, it puts me on alert to pay attention to relationships that are under distress or may cause unhappiness.

A large red heart is being pierced by three swords: one on the left side; one on the right side; and one in the center. The edges of all three words have fully penetrated the heart, their sharp edges protruding through it. Following the power of threes in Tarot–mind, body and spirit, conscious and unconscious thought as well as everything in between–have been hit by the storm.

Shuffling the Deck of Life: Tarot Card of the Day – 7 of Swords (Reversed)

Tarot Card of the Day – September 15, 2009: 7 of Swords (Reversed)

Deck: The Rider Tarot

7-swords-reversed-rider-waite

Element: Air
Associations:
Thought processes

The 7 of Swords depicts an interesting scene that denotes deception on many levels. The person in the card is stealing five swords away from a location that appears to be the site of a battle, but he leaves behind two swords standing upright. He is running to the left, symbolic of a conscious action. The two swords appear on the right side, representing unconscious thought. The number of swords stolen versus the number of swords left hehind matches the Roman numerals of the card, VII, which is 5+2 when broken down, equalling 7. Two denotes balance and five represents change.

Shuffling the Deck of Life: Tarot Card of the Day – 8 of Swords (Reversed)

Tarot Card of the Day – September 8, 2009: 8 of Swords (Reversed)

Deck: The Rider Tarot

8-swords-reversed-rider-waite

Element: Air
Associations:
Thought processes; conflict

This is my first attempt at a reversals in Tarot. One can make the argument for or against reading reversals, but I see the value in reading reversals as they tell a slightly different story of the card than the one depicted in the upright meaning.

Swords the suit of Swords represents thought, action and how our mind deals with issues.

In this card, a woman is bound among eight upright sword in the ground. To her left are three swords; to her right are five swords. She is standing on puddle of water that flows directly in front of her. A castle or village on a hill is in the background. She is standing on puddle of water that flows directly in front of her. Water represents emotions and is a sub-element in this card. The woman is bound by her own will, not by someone else; she is simply afraid of what will happen next or has run away from a current situation.
