Shuffling the Deck of Life: Courage

Tarot Card of the Day – November 4, 2009: Courage

Deck: The Fairy Tale Tarot

Courage in the Fairy Tale Tarot is based on the story “Little One Inch“.  Based on the typical Rider-Waite-Smith meanings (RWS), Courage is equivalent to Strength.

What is it like to face our fears? Do we feel bold? Do we feel cowardly? When I view this card, I feel a sense of bravery and fearlessness, much like I did with yesterday’s draw, the Princess of Swords. The difference between the two is that The Princess of Swords is part of the Minor Arcana and the course of events are affected by will, whereas the Courage card is part of the Major Arcana and represents a specific point of growth along the Tarot journey.

Shuffling the Deck of Life: Tarot Card of the Day – Strength

Tarot Card of the Day – September 1, 2009: Strength

Deck: The Rider Tarot

The woman in the Strength Tarot card shows complete control. We all desire the will to be able to conquer that which scares us or fills us with fear. If we didn’t, than we would live life in a passive state at all times and would never be able to tackle events that are more demanding in nature.

The lion is an animal that we most often associate with aggressiveness. However, in the woman is able to relax the lion’s wild tendencies and tame him into a docile creature. She is confident, and that innate trust in herself to accomplish the impossible is what helps her persevere.

This is the third strong card I have drawn consecutively. I must trust myself and have the confidence to achieve the task, even if I think it is impossible. I can do it if I put my mind to it.

This is my initial interpretation of the Strength card.

Tarot Deck: Universal Waite Tarot

The Strength Tarot card is the first in the second batch of seven cards in the Tarot Journey, following The Chariot. Strength is one of the three Platonic virtues represented in Tarot–Temperance and Justice–the two others. The fourth virtue, Prudence happens at the pentacle moment of achieved wisdom.

The background is solid yellow, representative of strength, creativity and enlightenment. A woman is standing in a lush green valley with trees and a single mountain peak in the far distance. The valley and trees are symbolic of growth and her being attune with nature. The single mountain peak in the distance represents a goal or an obstacle.
