An Interpretation: The Meaning of the Justice Tarot Card
This is my initial interpretation of the Justice card.
Tarot Deck: Universal Waite Tarot
Justice is one of the three Platonic virtues represented in Tarot–Temperance and Strength–the two others. The fourth virtue, Prudence happens at the pentacle moment of achieved wisdom.
A woman wearing a red robe sits in front of a purple backdrop. Both colors are representative of the fire element; passion and victory reign supreme here. She wears a green cape and a green undergarment. Green is a secondary color that combines the primary colors , yellow and blue–both balanced–symbolic of emotional growth which results in decisions making. A yellow outline of a sunny background appears faintly behind the backdrop, indicating growth and strength.
As opposed to the references of duality of the black and white pillars presented in The High Priestess, the pillars that support the backdrop are both white stone, as is the seat that she sits upon–similar to the pillars in The Hierophant–both indicative of the appearance of strength and stature. Justice cannot be swayed and stands solid on ground.
