Shuffling the Deck of Life: King of Pentacles – Security

Tarot Card of the Day – December 26, 2009

Deck: Morgan-Greer Tarot

Element: Earth
Associations: Possessions; financial growth; status

The King of Pentacles was an interesting card to pull after Christmas. Although the court cards in Tarot can stand for a specific gender, they are also universal. Since my daily draws for this blog are specifically on what I should focus on, when interpreting this card, I can see how it can be associated with myself or other people in my life.

The colors in the share a similar connection and are all strong colors: yellow/gold represents strength, growth and health; green reminds us of the connection to nature, fertility; purple denotes victory and power. The King stares forward. His skin color is gold and a gold helmet crowns his head. Purple horns adorn the sides of the helmet, a metaphor for victory and his connection with primal instinct and nature. He is dressed in a green robe, decorated with ivy and grapes, symbolic of fruition and abundance. He holds a staff in his left hand and a pentacle in his right indicating that he holds his ground both consciously and unconsciously. Everything is balanced in this card.

When I view this card, I think of confidence, a wealth of knowledge and material gains. Since the king is the highest order in the court, the card represents the culmination of the qualities of the suit; the person in the card is mature , wise and secure. In a weakened state, I see dishonesty, bitterness, issues with money and one’s current status.

I like this image of the King of Pents, and the first things that came to my mind is that one should focus their creativity towards their goal, Apply a practical approach to those ideas that you wish to put into action so that you can make them work for you in more than one way.

This King knows about how to appreciate life and what you have, and also how to go about getting the result you want. He says examine how you are living your life and try your hardest to aim for quality in it and not quantity. Be enterprising and work ways that benefit you so that you are not just rich in material things but in all things in life.

When I look at those colours in this card there is a lot of yellow/gold showing mental activity and illumination, reason and intellect (The King of Pents doesn’t rush into things without first thinking them through). Green – a plant colour – to show growth, expansion, adaptability and balance. Purple, a colour of royalty, authority – one who has reached a position of knowledge and respect, also a colour of wisdom and spiritual insight. It is the Crown Chakra colour and shows that one is in balance with their spiritual side as well as their physical.

Oh dear I’ve rambled on a bit here auracana LOL – hope some of it was of use – have a Happy New Year may it be peaceful and joyous.

    Hi Helen,

Thank you for the enlightening comment once again! I love work with the Morgan Greer so far since the colors truly evoke the emotions and deeper symbolism in the cards. I agree with you ; there is a true sense of maturity and balance in this card. The King of Pentacles (just like all other King cards in each of the suits) has mastered and achieved the trials and tribulations of everyday life. The green vegetation surrounds him indicating that he has grown, but is always growing and adapting from experience. Thank you for pointing out that purple is the Crown Chakra color; I haven’t delved into chakras, yet…

I am still become more acquainted with the Court cards, but the more they come up in readings, the more I am able to see how they connect with the other cards.

Happy New Year and I hope that you had an amazing holiday.

    Warmest regards, Nicole
